TOUR DESCRIPTION

Learn about Cape Town’s rich heritage on this half day tour that will help you understand and appreciate the city on a whole new level. Starting from a prime location on the vibrant V&A Waterfront, we'll ride inland towards the bustling city center, getting up close and personal with the downtown area and its inhabitants. From the historic city centre, we will cycle into the colorful Bo-Kaap neighborhood, a unit of streets known for the brightly painted houses. This area is home to the Cape Malays, and your guide will explain their history and heritage in Cape Town.

From there, we will make our way towards Green Point Biodiversity Gardens, past the football/soccer stadium where the world cup took place in 2020, and sea point promenade which has plenty of eateries for a post-walk drink or snack. Your guide can also explain some of the best hiking routes on Table Mountain.

We will then wind back through the city, stopping at various points of interest before heading back to the Waterfront along the Atlantic Seaboard. Stunning views abound, and the history that you'll learn on this guided tour will bring these sites to life.

Throughout the tour, your guide will stop to explain the complex history from Indigenous people to the early settlers' arrival, the Anglo Boer war, and Apartheid history. They will unravel the complex past that makes Cape Town the vibrant bustling city it is today.

Meeting Point

This tour departs from the iconic red clock tower at the Victoria & Albert Waterfront. The V&A waterfront can be reached by train on the southern line or by bus lines 104, Bayview-Somerset HOSP, T01, Blue Mini Penninsula Tour, and Red City Tour.

Where is the meeting point?

We meet just next to the red gothic clock tower on the V&A Waterfront. Located at Dock Rd, Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, Cape Town, 8001, South Africa. The V&A waterfront can be reached by train on the southern line or by bus lines 104, Bayview-Somerset HOSP, T01, Blue Mini Penninsula Tour, and Red City Tour.

What is your weather policy?

We reserves the right to cancel due to extreme changes in weather conditions that affect your safety, in which case the tour will be postponed or a full refund given. However, we will ride if there is a light rain. We suggest looking at the forecast and dressing appropriately, or reaching out to us if you would like to try and reschedule your tour.

Is this tour appropriate for children?

Children ages 9 and older are welcome on our group tours accompanied by an adult. Younger children are welcome on private tours where the guide can adjust the riding to their level.

What kind of bikes do you have?

We use giant hybrid escape bikes & electric probikes. You are welcome to upgrade to an electric bike for an additional charge of R450pp, but most of the tour route is on an easy to ride flat route.

Do I have to wear a helmet?

Yes, helmets are required for safety.

What are your hygiene regulations?

We sanitize all equipment including helmets and all bikes after each tour.

Do we go inside the museums and monuments?

No we do not enter any monuments or museums on our public tour. Your guide will give you plenty of helpful hints to go back and dive a bit deeper into the areas of Cape Town that interest you most following the tour.

How long is the ride?

This tour is 3 hours long, so you will return back to our office by 1pm. We will cover just over 9 miles/15 kilometers.

Do you have electric bikes?

Yes we do have electric bikes available, and you can upgrade for an additional charge of R450pp. Please select this when checking out so that we can set an e-bike aside for you.

Is there a place to store bags and luggage during the tour?

Of course! You are welcome to store bags in our office while on tour.

Is water included or can I purchase some before the tour?

You can fill your water bottle or purchase water in our office before the tour begins. We have a water bottle holder on all bikes and recommend you have some on tour.

Will there be a basket on my bike or a way to carry my bag?

There is not a basket or rack to carry a bag with you, however we do have an attachment to bring along a bottle of water. We recommend only brining the things that you'll need for the tour in a light backpack.

Is the cost of food & drink included?

On this tour, we do not have any stops scheduled to purchase food or drink. After the tour we are happy to recommend some great lunch options right along the waterfront.

What should I wear?

We recommend you dress in comfortable clothes suitable for cycling and weather appropriate. Please do not wear any valuables while on tour.
