Lyon

Lyon, the beautiful city on a hill. Historic neighborhoods such as Fourvière Hill & Presqu'île earned it the honor of a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998. It's known as the gastronomical capital of France (and among select crowds, of the world). Lyon is home to great chefs such as Paul Bocuse, or Mère Brazier, one of the woman attributed with the creation of the bouchon, a classic café in Lyon. This stunning city is also know for silk creation and the silk trade. Tucked away in Old Lyon you will still find silk ateliers, and the city celebrates this heritage through an annual silk festival. Lyon is bursting with themes, history, and neighborhoods to explore.

Among these neighborhoods, or arrondissements as the French call them, you will find hospitable bistros serving classic coq au vin, or for the daring, andouillette. Explore Vieux Lyon and discover the Renaissance. The Saint John the Baptist Cathedral sits near the edge of the Saône river, a beautiful 14th century structure waiting to be explored. A bit higher up you will find the famous Basilica of Notre Dame de Fourvière. Those who make it here are rewarded with stunning panoramic views of the city below.

Lyon being the third largest city in France enjoys relative popularity along with a laid-back lifestyle. It's proximity to Paris and the south make it the perfect stop-over for those enjoying a full French holiday.
